Japanese Garden

Projects

Spring is in the air and color is bursting throughout the campus. We are excited to have the new Japanese garden pruned to perfection in front of Cottage 505. The entryway is shaping up and new signs will make everyone feel especially welcome to our facility. The staff has been upgrading several cottages with handicapped access being installed and new patios poured for outdoor enjoyment. We want to make St. John's Retirement Village like home! Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this success by donating.

To provide full services to seniors, St. John’s relies on community donations. Last year 806 donations, totaling nearly $130,000, provided the critical maintenance, upkeep and upgrade of this unique and beautiful property.

A variety of projects are ongoing including landscape revitalization and remodeling of cottages and apartments. In addition, some major projects are in the planning stages including resurfacing and repairing campus roads and installation of a backup generator.

Potential donors, please view our PowerPoint presentation

Road Repair

Because of generous community support, approximately 10% of the $100,000 needed has been received to repair and resurface campus roads.

Carpeting

Support has also been received for carpeting the front lobby, dining room and activity room. More than $8,000 of the estimated cost of $35,000 was donated through the Dove program for this project.

Library Chairs

This project is fully funded and we plan to coordinate the purchase of the chairs with the installation of the carpet to insure an attractive design throughout.

Carport

Another project planned for the coming months is to build a carport on the north side of the Personal Care Unit. Final costs are still being determined.

Backup Generator

Staff will apply to the City of Woodland Community Development Block Grant to purchase a backup generator that will provide power to more units on campus. Cost is estimated at $130,000.

Landscaping

Landscaping throughout the campus will be renewed, bringing new life throughout the campus. Staff will trim and prune overgrown plants and bring in new color. The beautiful acreage is a treasure to residents as they exercise and enjoy the outdoors.

Curb Appeal

The entrance of the facility has been refurbished bring delightful curb appeal. New signs with lighting will greet residents and visitors surrounded by the new landscaping. The flag pole area in the front parking lot has also been renewed and a Japanese garden design accents Apartment 506. Thank you to everyone who donated to this effort.
